A Glimpse of things to Come...

As August fast approaches for the next Solid Groove Social club, we thought it suitable to give you a taster of some of the entertainment we have lined up for you. As in the info below for the August party, we have a very special guest in the form of Paul Stuart.
Paul's sets at the Sands at Southport are legendary, starting on a thursday evening with long time friend Rich Francis, Paul gets the party started for the early arrivals with a mix of jazz, funk and boogie classics, Fridays are about fresh and classic house music to prepare you for the night ahead, and the party keeps going until sunday nights finale. Such is the legendary status of the parties at the Sands, DJ's such as Kerri Chandler, Carl Dupree and Billy Davidson have made it their business to finish the weekend in there alongside Paul and Rich on the turntables. We can't decide what is more impressive, is it that Paul manages to DJ for about 30 hours all weekend, or the fact that he still manages to be propping up the bar inside the complex for most of the weekend!! Paul's record collection is legendary, a collector of classic soul, boogie, disco and house, Paul is unbelievably passionate about playing good music and we can't wait to welcome him to Newcastle.

The video is taken from the Southport Weekender 44, May 2009. In The Sands pub across the road from the main event.

Paul has also kindly allowed us to host one of his superb mixes. He regularly posts outstanding mixes of house, soul, jazz, disco, and much more.

August 29th Solid Groove Social Club

Ok, so we're back after an amazing debut session with Phlash in May.

After the issues we had with the sound system last month we have decided to move the party to a venue where the quality of sound can not be compromised, and we take over at one of Stereo's sister venues, the Other Rooms at Digital, complete with Funktion One sound!!!

We're gearing up for an England v Scotland summer soundclash at Solid Groove HQ, and we have another 2 of our favourite DJ's coming to party with us.........

In the blue corner, representing Scotland, is Craig Smith.

No stranger to most on here, Craig is one of the resident DJ's at Moovn in Edinburgh, a party which has quickly established itself on Scotlands house music map and is renowned for its party atmosphere, no doubt meaning Craig and the rest of the crew will have a ball with us in Newcastle. As well as trips all over Europe representing the legendary Soul Heaven alongside Phil Asher, the Fanatix and Andy Ward, Craig has held down residencies at some of Scotlands most influential house music parties such as Audio Deluxe, Soulfusion and Substance. His residence at Honeycomb spanned over 10 years, and Craig played alonside guests such as Masters At Work - Kenny "Dope" Gonzalez and Lil' Louie Vega, Terry Hunter, Phil Asher, Bugz In The Attic, Domu, Paul 'Trouble' Anderson, DJ Deep, Neil Pierce, Osunlade, DJ Jazzy Jeff, Dave Camacho, Ashley Beadle, Kenny Carpenter, Kerri Chandler and Frankie Feliciano - all of whom have rated Craig and his parties as one of the best to play in Europe. Craig's influences span from jazz funk and boogie to house and soul, so we are expecting some show and a mixed bag of musical delights. Recently putting out music under various monikers such as 6th borough project and with his partner in crime Graeme 'the revenge' Clark, as well as an extensive back catalogue of remix and production work for artists such as moloko, mad moses, joseph malik and cevin fisher, Craig will no doubt have a fair few exclusive treats to drop for us on the day.

In the red corner, representing England, is a man who needs no introduction to anyone who has ever been to the Southport Weekender....Paul Stuart.

Paul's record collection is legendary, a collector of classic soul, boogie, disco and house, Paul is unbelievably passionate about playing good music and we can't wait to welcome him to Newcastle.

warming you up will be Solid Groove residents Jimmy Johnson, Kev Hutch and our newest recruit to the residents team, Stu Ashton. Stu's deep beats and disco treats mixes are on constant rotation at Solid Groove HQ, and after his performance at our debut session, we thought it appropriate that we sign him up on a bosman style free transfer, although his wage demands are a tad excessive.......

Please join us for an amazing night of music, full details below, artwork and flyers coming soon.

The First Solid Groove Social Club

The Solid Groove Social Club launches on Saturday, May 23rd (bank holiday weekend), with an all day event at Stereo on Newcastles Quayside, 2pm thru 3am. The idea behind our party is to bring together like minded, music loving party people who like to dance. Its not about playing the most obscure records or 'cooler than thou' attitudes, just amazing music from every genre, played by people who share the same passion for having a good time.

We couldn't possibly have asked anyone other than our old friend Phil Asher to be our first guest. Phil is the absolute DON of UK house music, whose remixes and productions are played by DJ's all over the world. His recent Phlash & Friends project, Deep Electronic Sound on Archive Records is blowing up everywhere to massive critical acclaim, and Phil's DJ sets are legendary, taking in house, disco and boogie, broken beat, hip hop, soul, latin, jazz, basically every form of soulful music!! Phil is gonna stretch his legs and spin for 4 hours, so expect to hear him go DEEEEEEP!! As usual, we expect that Phil will spend as much time on the dancefloor as he does in the DJ booth......

Warming up for Phil is another member of the Restless Soul family, Craig Whitfield. Craig is a north east boy originally who moved to London many moons ago, and is currently busy in the Studio coming up with some crazy edits of classic house tunes with his partner in crime, Luke 'the duke' McCarty. Craigs record collection has to be seen to be believed, and he has promised us he is gonna dig deep for the party!!

Also joining us on the day are our good friends from Manchester, the Development boys Mike, Chris and Tom. Anyone who was at Inspiration Information recently will know what to expect when the boys are given licence to play whatever the hell they like!!

Also playing records will be Stu Ashton, Craig Campbell and Kwame. All 3 completely passionate about there music and will no doubt pull out some gems for us to get the party started!!!!

Propping up the bar will be residents James Johnson and my good self.

Some of the comments made by the party goers...

"Had an amazing time. Newcastle rocks - and so did Stereo - great party, wicked atmos, friendliest people in the land - what a great party!!! very big thanks to Kev & co for putting it together and taking the time to entertain us all"

"...was a great weekend in Newcastle. Kev and Kimmy worked really hard to
make this work and it did with bells on. DJ selections were really varied and kept in fresh specically when
drinking Stella in between Bulmers"

"The music was superb all day, but the atmosphere was ten times as good. Big up to all the DJ's who played for nothing more than a few bottles of stella and some cuddles!!"

"...absolutely brilliant day/night... much thanks to kev/jimmy for organising and to every dj for non-stop fantastic music... all deserve a mention...

kwame & craggers (aka the chuckle brothers) - perfect music to start a 13 hour session
stu ashton - spot on deep disco selection
jimmy - some lovely music to match your dodgy dancing moves
development lads - covered all the bases, excellent as always
kev - gutted this set wasn't recorded - quality house, great lead-in to craig
craig - fucking superb, picked up where kev left off and blew the floor away
phlash - also rocked it, nothing less expected... bit of suspect mic action tho!

cheers again for a great event, will definitely be back for more"

The first party was a huge success and hopefully we can carry on the way we have started...

"...don't know what else to say other than thank you, we had an amazing day, and we are so happy that everyone had a great time. Special thanks to all the dj's who played for us,you were all amazing, and the music was superb all day. Massive shout to Tommy, the manager of the venue, who ran around to get things done for us all day, but most importantly a massive, massive thank you to everyone who travelled far and wide to party with us, you were amazing" (Kev & Jimmy)
